![]() ![]() Ten years later they moved to Carolina Meadows where she learned to quilt, joined of the choir, as well as the synchronized swim club, and enjoyed many evenings of ballroom dancing. She and Bob moved to Hillsborough, North Carolina in 1994 to be near Sandy and her family including 3 grandsons. Her math skills were put back into use in the mid-1970s when she learned to prepare taxes and worked for H&R block for over 20 years. She made many friends through the church including her 'second sister' Jane Haling. She was a member of the Greenfield Congregational Church in Dearborn where she was involved in a variety of activities, including cooking for and coordinating church dinners. Gardening was another pastime both her yard and home were filled with flowers and plants. Many neighborhood parties were hosted in her backyard and friends and neighbors were always welcome to drop by for a swim. She loved to swim and did so daily, weather permitting. Every new pharmacist at the VA had dinner at the Newton house at least once and the kitchen was never without a delicious dessert. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed entertaining. She knit all the sweaters for her family, including Bob's favorite zippered cardigans. She taught herself how to sew and made clothes for herself and other family members for many years. They were married on Jsharing an anniversary date with her sister.īob's career as a pharmacist with the VA system took them to several cities including Maywood, Illinois, St. While visiting Chicago with a friend, she met her future husband, Bob Newton on a blind date. During her time in Indiana she worked as a bookkeeper for the Chase Bag Company. She stayed with her sister and her family for several years helping to raise her niece and nephew (to whom she was a devoted aunt) in Goshen, Indiana. Her sister Gaby married an American soldier and Inge followed her to the US in the early 1950s. She ultimately spoke English without an accent, while remaining fluent in German. After the war ended she worked for the US Army as a switchboard operator in part to improve her English. ![]() During WWII she lived in various towns in Bavaria before completing her education at the Mozart High School for Women in Wurzburg. Inge was born in Gemunden, Germany as the first child of Margarete and Wilhelm Schuehler. ![]()
